Many of you will relate to this. Has it ever happened to you that in the middle of a conversation, your spouse asks you, “What do you think?” For minutes, she had been sharing with you something that happened. You were nodding, even adding comments like, “wow, really?” Giving the impression that you were listening and paying attention. But, when she asks, “What do you think?” You are silent. Your body gets cold, and your life flashes before your eyes. That is a tough spot. No matter how smart you are, you can’t get out of it because immediately after that follows the next question, “Were you listening to me?” You can’t lie. She is asking not because she does … Read More

Worry Less

We have worry rituals, don’t we? We bite our fingernails. We pace the floor. We lie awake at night. Our minds twist over and over around a problem, turning it this way and then that like a Rubik’s Cube. Let me show you. This is a brand-new Rubik’s Cube. Right now, everything is in order. All the colors are grouped on their respective sides. I want to think this is how we were when we were little. Everything was good and worked well; nothing hurt or was wrong except for diapers (in the case of babies, of course) and the occasional snot. We make a long list of things we will finally get done this time—just like last year and the year before and so on. Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate a good new year’s resolution list. The challenge is not having one but thinking that our life will be better if we do more. But is it? Is “more” the best for our lives? Is “more” what God calls to do? What … Read More

Anchored by Faith, Driven by Hope

What characters come to mind when you hear the phrase or title of “People of Faith in the Bible”? Abraham (has to be on the top 1 for sure), Noah, Moses, King David, prophets like Elisha, Mary mother of Jesus, or any of his disciples for sure. What all of them had in common was their faith and how they acted on them. Abraham trusted God with the life of his only son; Noah believed in God against the mockery of those around him; Moses was raised as a liberator because he believed in God’s promise; king David faced enemies and overcame them because he acted on his faith. All of them, along with many others, were anchored in faith … Read More

The Hope of Christmas

“But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father… Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.” Matthew 24:36-44 In these verses from Matthew 24, Jesus speaks about the end of times, also known as The Day of the Lord. As he is preparing to meet the final conflict of his earthly ministry, with this exhortation, he is instructing his followers to be ready for his return at a time when they don’t expect it. He spoke a message about the things that would come in the last days and said: I am coming at a time you don’t expect, so … Read More
