Romans 12:10 "Be devoted to on another in love. Honor one another above yourselves."

As the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Committee on Relief – UMCOR – assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need. UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable. UMCOR provides relief, response and long-term recovery grants when events overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on their own. UMCOR also provides technical support and training for partners to address emerging and ongoing issues related to disaster relief, recovery, and long-term health and development.

Running for Clean Water

Several churches in the area join together for a 5K and Fun Run to raise money for wells in developing nations.

Our continuing goal is to provide clean and safe drinking water f or the rural regions of Sierra Leone. Dirty water threatens lives and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. Additionally, severe issues with farming due to localized drought and soil erosion has caused short supplies of needed food to the villages. Proceeds from this 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run will go toward maintaining the clean water initiatives already in place and development of best farming practices for the region. We are again partnering with Seven Hills Global Outreach and Zion Ministries in Sierra Leone for their support in this life changing endeavor.

Beginning our 13th year, Running 4 Clean Water has raised in excess of $160,000 for clean water projects. Come be a part of this life saving event.
Bib and T-shirt Pickup: Bib and T-shirts can be picked up at First united Methodist Church, Garland (801 W. Avenue B, Garland, TX 75040) on Friday October 13th from 4 to 7 pm. Bibs and T-shirts can also be picked up the morning of the race at on-site registration after 6:30 am. However, no bag check service will be provided on race day, so please plan accordingly.

ABOUT THE TRAIL- the 5K will be run on the Duck Creek Greenbelt trail. The path is cement and goes thru wooded and open areas. As with any cement path there may be areas of high and low pavement, so please be aware when running/walking. There is one very low area of the pathway, that might cause the event to be postponed if it rains the day of the event or just prior to it. The race managers will survey the trail the day prior to access conditions and make last minute determinations.
