Lent/Easter Calendar

New World UMCNews & Events

Hello, everyone, I pray this note finds your soul well. I keep you all in my prayers, particularly those who are dealing with health and family needs. I encourage you to reach out if there is anything I can do for you. I am committed to your wellness.

Since I became your pastor, these past few months have been very encouraging to me about our future together. We have a great church with people who love this ministry and have invested themselves for so many years to see it thrive—even against challenging times.

But today, we are writing a new story, and the season of Lent and the celebration of Easter present us with a beautiful time for spiritual renewal and joyful fellowship.

So, here is the plan:

Ash Wednesday – February 17

  • We will offer a “Drive-Thru Ashes” at 8:15 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  • And an online Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 p.m.

We will have “Ashes-to-Go” in little bags available on Sunday 02/14 and during office hours (9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.) for people to take with them to use them on Ash Wednesday during the online worship service or at their discretion.

Lent Study

  • We will use “Embrace This Holy Season” by Joseph F. Sica for our daily study, reflections, and prayers. The book will be available for pick up on Sunday 02/14 at the Welcome Center and during church office hours (9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.).

Holy Week – March 28-April 4

  • Palm Sunday (regular schedule)
  • We will provide information about the plans for a Good Friday service. TBD
  • Easter – April 4
    • Sunrise Service 7 a.m.
    • Easter Celebration 10 a.m.

For Easter Sunday, weather permitting, we will have both services outside. We want everyone to come back to church, no limitations or conditions except to wear a mask, maintain social distance, and not have symptoms of Covid-19. We want Easter to be and feel like a BIG CELEBRATION where we sing praises, raise joyful prayers, and celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus the Christ. We need this. So, this means that we want to have as many of you come as possible. There will be drinks, coffee, and donuts and family-friendly games to enjoy.

We will provide more details every week as we approach the date. For now, please take notice of the Ash Wednesday and Lent Study information.

If you have any questions, please ask us; we want everyone to be informed with accurate information.

There is a lot of great ministry coming our way. I hope that this Lent and Easter season may help us continue to see this picture together and be excited about our future.

Beth Steerman helped me understand how I feel now about ministry. She said, “like a horse standing in the box eager to let go and start running.” Yes, that is precisely how I feel.

Let’s get ready to run together in this great race of life and ministry!
