The Reason for the Season

The Reason for the Season It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Or so the song says. The truth is, the Christmas season can be challenging and wonderful at the same time. Many are excited, anticipating a wonderful time with family and friends. Many are stressed, worried and over extended, trying to buy too many gifts for too many people. Some are stressed because they cannot afford to buy gifts at all. Others are grieving and sad, experiencing Christmas without the presence of someone dear. Wherever you are, whatever your story, I pray that God’s grace and mercy will surround you. I pray that you slow down long enough to allow the light of God’s love to fill your … Read More

Let’s Talk

I got up one morning and said to my husband of two months, “Let’s go walking.” He agreed and we headed out to walk around the lake near our home. I began to fall behind him and reminded him that I couldn’t walk as quickly as he did. I noticed that he wasn’t saying much which began to frustrate me. We continued on in silence until I began to explain to him that I thought a walk would be a nice outing for us and that perhaps he needed to be more spontaneous. He replied, “I thought we were going to exercise.” I realized he was just as frustrated as I was. What followed was a very interesting conversation. It … Read More

Get Ready

I’ve come to understand that preparation is important. It’s important in our everyday existence. It’s important for our spiritual lives. We must prepare for what God wants to do in and through us. I think sometimes we forget that God has always been in the miracle-working business and that business is still good. We miss the miracles looking at the messiness of life, caught up in the busyness of life and overwhelmed by the problems of life. Yet, God is still doing the miraculous, changing lives, and making the impossible a reality. Sometimes we need to adjust our vision, open our eyes and see the God who lives and loves us. Sometimes we need to celebrate in the darkness. Sometimes … Read More

It’s been said that it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind. I’d like to suggest that this is not just for women. Changeability is a good thing, maybe even a necessity. Sometimes we get stuck in old patterns and behaviors that desperately need to change. Change begins in your mind. The truth is, your actions won’t change until your thinking changes. Maybe God has been waiting for you to change your mind. Maybe that’s what is needed so the fresh wind of the Spirit can recreate, rejuvenate and restore. Maybe that’s why the Apostle Paul wrote, “whatever is true, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there … Read More

Be Still

Mind numbing……. these are the only words I have to describe all that we have witnessed recently with the destruction, loss and death caused by Harvey and Irma. It is difficult to fully comprehend the images that reach out and overwhelm us on social media and television. How are we to process all that has happened in recent weeks in Texas and Florida? Is this even possible? Furthermore, how do we process these events as people of faith? I hear people saying things like, “God is trying to get our attention,” or “God is judging us.” I must say statements like these create a certain amount of discomfort within me. They make God sound petty and a bit scary. Does … Read More
