This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! Sunday, October 19 is Laity Sunday in the United Methodist Church. Laity Sunday is celebrated each October on the third Sunday of the month. Who are the Laity and why are they important to the Church?
The Laity are each and every one of you – everyday members who live out their faith and serve their local church with their prayers, presence, gifts and service. Laity provides leadership, teaching, outreach, worship, and much more. They are the hands and feet of Christ. Without Laity the Church could not thrive!
Laity doesn’t require any special skill or education. It only requires your love for Christ and His ministry, and your faithfulness as a member of Christ’s holy church. I Corinthians 12:12 and 27 – 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
