In 1973, the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) assumed responsibility for the Meals on Wheels program in Dallas County. VNA, a non-profit comprehensive home health agency, recognizes that for many home- bound elderly, sick, and disabled, the difference between continuing to live in their own residence and institutional care is a home delivered meal.



Since VNA began managing the Meals on Wheels program, the number of meals delivered daily has increased from 125 to 2,600. The expansion of VNA Meals on Wheels is due to the substantial growth of Dallas County and its aging population.

All meals are prepared in the Beatrice M. Haggerty Kitchen, located at VNA headquarters on 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane in Dallas. Funding sources of VNA Meals on Wheels include the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Texas Department of Human Services, United Way, and donations from individuals and organizations.
